LOCATION AND SURROUNDINGS
Potami Beach
The Potami beach, above which our four holiday homes are located, is not one of the beaches where holidaymakers from the north can fry in masses next to each other in the sun. There is always enough space to find a nice place. In August, when the Greeks themselves have holidays, there is a little more activity, but even then you have a lot of space at the beach.
Beach and tavernas
The Potami Beach is a pebble beach with small to medium pebbles. And it has been shown that a pebble beach is actually much more pleasant than a sandy beach. Pebbles are not only more exciting for children in the long run. This also has advantages for adults: no sticky sunmilk sand layer on the skin, and no sand in the stockings after putting them on again. How pleasant!
The nicest tavern is the “Hippys” which is located directly at the beach. I was there for the first time in 1982, and still today it’s just totally relaxing there. That’s exactly how it has to be on holiday.
There are also some very nice tavernashere on the beach. invite you to renounce the midday sun. However, if you are not careful, it is so nice in the tavern that it is quickly afternoon, and you were still not in the sea. The “Hippys” and the “Potami Beach Bar” also have sun loungers and umbrellasat the beach. These are free of charge for their guests. So if you consume a bit – at fair prices – you can use the sunbed and parasol all day long.
The location of the house is also ideal as a starting point of long or shorter hikes. The green paradise begins on the doorstep. The entire western part of Samos can be accessed from here. From here you can walk on green hiking trails to the two beaches Micro Seitani and Megalo Seitani, or to Drakei, which is the westernmost place on Samos. Some also dare to climb the 1400m high Vigla, which is only recommended if there is enough experience. If you don’t want to hike that long, the Potami valley with its well-known waterfalls is always a fascinating destination for a small excursion.
TThe Potami Beach is located about 3 KM from the port of Karlovassi (Limani Karlovassi). To Karlovassi itself it is about 4 KM. In the port there are many taverns and coffee shops, some other shops and very good ice bar.
The nearest large supermarket is located between the port and the town center on the waterfront.
Although you can also walk these routes, we prefer a rental car, which we would also recommend to our guests.
Karlovassi itself is not a typical tourist resort, but a lovely, normal Greek city where the Greeks of the whole area buy everything they need.
As a tourist, you can also get everything your heart desires, and you can spend hours watching the everyday Greek life while enjoying various Greek coffees.
Hiking on Samos
The location of the house is also ideal as a starting point of long or shorter hikes. The green paradise begins on the doorstep. The entire western part of Samos can be accessed from here. From here you can walk on green hiking trails to the two beaches Micro Seitani and Megalo Seitani, or to Drakei, which is the westernmost place on Samos. If you don’t want to hike that long, the Potami valley with its well-known waterfalls is always a fascinating destination for a small excursion.
The island with its variety of coastal regions, hills and mountains invites you to go on a trip for a few hours, half days or day trips. The best time for big walks is of course outside the hot summer months of July and August. But even then there are some very nice shorter, shady tours. There are numerous sections, which lead at least partly through high vegetation – the high mountain tours on the Kerkis and some tours in the east and south once excluded.
The beautiful wildness of the island and the tranquility on the hikes are great. And mostly a visit to a mountain village can be included with a kafenion.

GREENEST ISLAND OF THE AEGEAN
Landscape & Climate
Samos is the greenest island in the Aegean, because unlike the Cyclades Islands, it is overgrown with beautiful varied vegetation. The short, rainy winters provide enough moisture for the rest of the year. Many springs supply the island with the precious wet. A sea of flowering bushes and many cypresses and silvery shimmering olive trees enchant the landscape, and everything is adorned with bright colours.
From April to June, Samos is a single flowering paradise. In the summer months, when it gets hotter, the all-lasting green provides pleasant freshness. And in the late summer months of September to November, which are called autumn, the flower splendour comes out for the second time to decorate the little paradise before the short winter. After that, when the flower splendour has faded, lemons and oranges shine on the trees, and the vines hang full of grapes.
Since Samos has two high mountains that even extend beyond the tree line, after a nice hike you have the opportunity to see 1500 m above sea level over the Aegean Sea or the nearby Turkish mainland.
